If you are looking for a sweet party theme for your child that is unique and beautiful, a You Are My Sunshine birthday party theme is perfect! You can use “You are My Sunshine”, “First Trip Around the Sun” or even “Our Little Sunshine” for various taglines. We loved celebrating our one-year-old with this cute theme!
We chose “You are My Sunshine” for my daughter’s first birthday theme because it was perfect for her. Not only is that song a special family tune, but my daughter’s birthday falls in the middle of summer. This was one of the most special memories I have of my motherhood journey thus far.

Party Outfit
Are you a thrifter? I am! I thrifted the entire outfit for our party girl and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I found the jacket and the dress on Kidizen. If you haven’t checked Kidizen out, you really should! I always check Kidizen when I am looking for something special. I got her iron-on name patch on Etsy.
I had to share these two pictures of the birthday girl in her outfit! The one on the right is her walking for the first time on her own! She decided she would wait until her birthday party for a crowd!
Party Decor
I purchased the balloon kit from Amazon. This was my first time doing a balloon kit. I learned a few things! The main thing I learned was that it works best if you tie two balloons together before putting them on the balloon strip! I also purchased the high chair banner on Amazon. I’ve linked similar ones below as the ones I purchased are no longer available.
I made the centerpieces using a template I purchased on Etsy, glass mason jars, straws, tissue paper, and my daughter’s old receiving blankets. These were very affordable!
I found the invitations on Etsy as well as this cute time capsule activity. I thought this was so special for a first birthday party. I had it set up at the front of the party so guests could fill out out as they came in.
Party Favors
I knew there would be several younger kids at the party, so I decided to do a party favor table. The hats are from Dollar General, the bubbles and glasses are from Oriental Trading, and the sunshine squirters are from Amazon.
Cake Table
I displayed the first twelve months banner and one balloon behind the cake table. I also covered the cake table with a pink tablecloth from Dollar General and one of my favorite swaddles from when she was a baby.
I ordered the cakes and cupcakes from the Walmart bakery. This was our most convenient option since we rented a cabin at a state park. Plus, everything was delicious!
