Helping you create magic out of the mundane

Making Our New House our Home – Welcome to Home on Hazel Ridge

I’ve thought long and hard about how I wanted to start my first blog post, and I finally decided that I’d just go for it! My name is Ciara and you can learn more about me here. I have a background in education as well as digital media, and occasionally that can lead to overthinking. It’s funny how once I quit overthinking and just go for it, I generally come out much happier. So I decided to quit overthinking and just DO IT! Write the post.

Below are some family photos we had taken this past summer during our first family vacation in the mountains. My husband and I eloped here, and we couldn’t think of a more special place to take some family photos.

I am married to my husband, Jeff, and we have a one-year-old daughter named Aubrie. We also have a four-year-old malshipoo, Bridger, that we absolutely adore. In November of 2022, we made a very special move for our family. We moved into the home that was built in the 1970’s by Jeff’s grandparents.

I knew that I wanted to document the process of making this place our home. I have always loved everything to do with home design, budget renovation, and truly making an environment feel like “home”, but I’ve never really had the opportunity to put it to work in my own forever home until now. So buckle up!

I recently found this photograph of our property in the basement. It is from 1986. I have always thought these property photos were so unique and special. It’s really neat to see how the properties change over time.

Jeff and I are not master carpenters, but somehow we usually get most jobs done (or we hire them out!). I have an eye for design, and Jeff has a way of thinking through projects before we start them about how they could really benefit our family in the best way.

I have also chosen to document our renovation projects on TikTok. This will allow me to connect with other people who have more experience, and it will also allow me to look back on all the progress we make as we go. Follow along for the renovation process as well as some “mom humor.”

If you’ve made it this far, thanks! I’d love to connect with you and have you along for this journey!

XOXO, Ciara
